Qantas Sickies Close Flights
In what has to be one of the most bizarre stories I've heard recently, all Qantas flights in and our of Perth tonight have been canceled for three hours because a few air traffic controllers called in sick.
Apparently they have no backup plan for sick employees. They just shut down for a few hours. Perhaps the controllers all ate the flight meals? I know just the smell of them normally makes me grab for a bag.

It wasn’t Qantas staff who called in sick, it was the air traffic controllers, I believe.

Based on the article, it was the Air Traffic Controllers who went sick and not QANTAS staff. ATC is totally separate to the airlines and QANTAS didn’t want to risk landing or taking off with an unstaffed tower.
