JJ's Pet Peeve of The Week - WA Sport coverage

1points Posted 359 days, 12 hours ago by jj

In approximately 10 minutes time, young Casey Dellaqua will begin, what will be the biggest tennis match of her career thus far. I know there have been a thousand cliches thrown around about Perth's latest senation and her "BONDS" tank tops from 'Target'. Why has this become my Pet Peeve of the Week?

Due to a collusion for ratings between Tennis Australia, management of the Australian OPen and the Network broadcasting the event, Chanel 7 and it's cable counterpart, no one in Perth will be watching this match until it has already been decided! Why are we being treated like second class citizens AGAIN by these corporations. I know in the digital age, just log onto the 'Australian Open Website' and watch it there, but NO, it is not possible to get live feeds in Australia because of the deal with Chanel 7.

I am tired of this repetitive and completely discriminatory treatment handed out by the Eastern State owned commercial networks. The research I have completed (looking at broadcast patterns of major events for the past 5 years), the ABC and SBS are the only two who have not delayed an event to coincide with best ratings timeslots. I for one think it is about time the others lifted their game.

Finally, just for completeness I have now (1945EDST) checked the Australain Open website and I can't even get access to the match statistics, yet all the information for EVERY of game currently being played is there!!!!!

Chanel 7, and management of the Australian Open, you are my Pet Peeve of the Week

Chanel 7 apparently received more than 5000 phone calls today about this issue, and are now broadcasting the match live, however, the person I spoke with stated that “the rest of tonights matches and future matches will be broadcast as advertised”, ie DELAYED

Yet another reason why I dont watch TV.

I dont like to encourage piracy (ok, maybe a little) but if everyone started downloading everything they watched, maybe the OZ tv networks would pull their finger out.

But then again, maybe thats just wishful thinking.

On a related note, I’ve been reading in the Terrorgraph about Hewitt’s match ending at 4.34am. Did 7 show the whole match?

Poor Lleyton’s complaining about being sleep deprived. Welcome to the real world! Many people get that way in their jobs and playing tennis is your job. Suck it up, Princess!

Leyton Hewitt is good value:

if he wins its good because he’s Australian, and

if he loses its good because he’s a dick_head.
