Commonwealth Bank shoots self in foot

For those of us who have not have the opportunity to see Commonwealth Bank's latest TV advertisement, it is now available on YouTube.
For those of us who have not have the opportunity to see Commonwealth Bank's latest TV advertisement, it is now available on YouTube.
The only explanation I can come up with for this ad is that Commonwealth Bank did not commission it - that it was created by a rival bank to make Commonwealth Bank look like idiots ... which it does quite successfully.
Basically the ad is saying that Commonwealth Bank is run by a bunch of unimaginative, boring middle-aged executives who wish to project a superficial image of the bank as somehow different from other banks (without specifying how) yet decide to pull the plug on the only half-decent attempt at doing so (however shallow and transparent that attempt may have been).
It's seriously confusing, seriously a waste of money ... and if Commonwealth Bank truly is responsible for coming up with this then there are several people there who need to lose their jobs (unless they were fired beforehand and this was their last-day prank before moving on).

Actually I like the ad. There are some absolutely terrible US ads on Aussie TV, enough to make you sick. I wish more Aussies marketing people would just burn American made ads.

American ads are made for Americans and obviously they work in America for Americans otherwise those advertising agencies wouldn’t be getting business … I like to think that Aussies are more sophisticated and intelligent *grin* but really, they’re just different cultures, different social values and what works for them doesn’t work for us … and without being American it’s hard to identify exactly why that is.
