Cousins to play Footy again
In his first interview since the drug scandal that derailed his career, Ben Cousins has stated that he wishes to play football again. He expressed a desire to start training with a WAFL club later in the year, with a view to restarting his career in 2009.
Cousins said, "I’m not ashamed or embarrassed to say I have…or have had a drug problem,” to a packed media contingent in the Mundine boxing gym.
He believes that, “The things that made me a great footballer were some of the things that led me to fall into some of those traps". Cousins appeared nervous at first, but later settled in and displayed the sense of humour he is known for. He was wearing an open knecked white shirt and listened intently as the other members of the forum including Mundine, rugby league player Sonny Bill Williams and Olympic gold medallist Nova Peris-Kneebone spoke.

Was there any admission to what his drug problem was? To be honest I have not heard the interview, but from what you describe he is till making excuses for his problem.

“I’m not ashamed or embarrassed to say I have a drug or have had a drug problem, because for a lot of people they don’t choose to do it,” he said.
I think one of the key steps in the 12 steps is admitting you have a problem, and want to change. I hope Ben is able to do this.

When can we finally stop talking about this guy? Firstly, he could do with a reduction in the level of attention he receives so he can tackle his own issues. Secondly, until he really starts to show that he understands the gravity of his problem, keep him away from football and out of the limelight lest he attract others to drag down with him.
The guy is a real dork and we are making him out to be a hero. Get him off my TV screen.
