Correct me if I am wrong, but the Aussie Dollar has caught up a lot on the US price over the year. I wouldn’t be suprised if lots of the prices are based on the conversation rate from a year ago (from one site says that it was about 1.18Aud = 1US). If you do that on the table for Adobe at least, it works out about right for most of the table.

I guess there may also be different tax rules and policys for selling into different countrys (but could be wrong on that).

Anyway, if you don’t like the cost, don’t guy it.

Correct… (retailers) have to factor in the cost of shipping ALL THE WAY to Australia as well. Which doesn’t make sense when selling software online.

It’s got something to do with regional licensing of products- as in, each continent presumably has their own publishers which distribute the software in their areas.

I did this poll. In many ways its broken! Like one of the questions was like “Do you support paid maternity leave?”. Well I personally don’t but then it goes to ask what scheme I would want. Well I had to pick one even though I don’t support any of them!

PS. Another was do I support paid Paternity leave and my answer is no again!

PS. PS. If anyone is interested, I think if the Government is going to pay for Maternity leave, it would be better to increase Family Payments!

It’s not just software.  A 3d mouse I recently bought is around the $US50-60 in the US but the lowest price here is $US250.  The local distributor assured me that their margin is small (I’m guessing around 300%). I was able to have it delivered from the US within a week for under $US100, but the local distributor was going to take 3 weeks.

It isn’t just in Australia that the price is off balance with actual prices. I live in Canada, and prices are much higher even with tax taken out of the equation than the US.
