Retarded: Disability groups protest Tropic Thunder
Were you under the impression that Freedom of Speech meant you didn't have to like everything anyone ever said, but you couldn't deny their right to say it? Apparently not. It seems anything you don't like can be defined as "hate-speech".

There is a fine line between being funny and upsetting someone, that line varies from person to person

Great. Advocacy groups for people with intellectual disabilities are exercising their right to freedom of speech by peaceful protest.
…Oh wait, that’s not what you meant?

They can protest as much as they like. But to exercise their right to free speech by demanding someone else’s is quashed? I disagree… Like it or not, if you advocate free speech, you must advocate it for the ‘haters’ too. Otherwise it’s not free, it’s only for the people you agree with. Was suppression the intent of the votes down, he asks mischievously?…

Leroy: can you show me where the _right_ to this speech was forcibly quashed? A court case, a ruling, an injunction? I only see a private company responding to public comment, probably in a way that they think may help their bottom line.
Freedom of speech isn’t freedom from criticism.

Read my comment again carefully. Nothing was forcibly quashed, nor did I say it was. I said the protesters demanded quashing. From the article: “The protesters held up signs with slogans such as “Call me by my name, not by my label” and chanted phrases like “Ban the movie, ban the word.”"”Ban.” Twice. Freedom of speech is absolutely not freedom from criticism. That’s the point. Criticise away, but do not ban.
